CNC Panel Bender Operating and Safety Guidelines

Apr 19 , 2025

Key Content of CNC Panel Bender Safety Operation Guidelines

Personal Protective Equipment

The operator must wear appropriate personal protective equipment and follow the operational guidelines for the CNC panel bender.

Pre-Startup Checks

Before starting the machine, check the motor, switches, wiring, and ensure that the equipment is properly grounded. Verify that all switches and buttons are in the correct positions.

Check the Die Alignment and Firmness

Inspect the alignment and firmness of the upper and lower dies, and ensure that the positioning devices are functioning properly.

Initial Trial Run

After starting the machine, perform an idle run for 1-2 minutes. Only begin production once no issues are detected.

Unified Command During Operation

During operation, one person should be designated as the command leader. All personnel should cooperate closely and follow the instructions and commands.

Clamping the Sheet Material

When bending the sheet material, ensure it is securely clamped to prevent lifting. Do not attempt to bend sheet material from one end.

Correcting Deviations Safely

If any workpiece or die position deviates during operation, immediately stop the machine to correct the issue. Do not use hands to make adjustments.

Avoid Overloading

Do not exceed the machine's performance limits during bending, as this could damage the CNC panel bender.

Immediate Stop for Abnormalities

If the machine exhibits any abnormalities, stop the machine immediately, inspect it, and resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Power Off After Work

After finishing the work, turn off the power and properly conduct shift handover procedures.

CNC Panel Bender Equipment Management

The maintenance of a CNC panel bender is a specialized skill, which sets certain requirements for the maintenance personnel. The key points are as follows

Comprehensive Knowledge in Electromechanics

Maintenance personnel should have a broad knowledge in fields such as electromechanics, computer science, CNC, and automation. Additionally, they should possess basic mechanical processing knowledge and be able to perform basic programming on the CNC system.

Strong Problem-Solving and Practical Skills

Maintenance personnel should be able to think critically and learn continuously. They should also have some knowledge of foreign languages, as some technical documentation may be in a foreign language. Additionally, practical skills are crucial, as hands-on tasks often require precision and focus.

Key Considerations in Equipment Management

  • Establish Comprehensive Rules and Records: Create a complete set of rules and regulations and maintain detailed equipment records.

  • Enhanced Installation, Debugging, and Acceptance: Pay attention to installation, debugging, and acceptance processes for the CNC panel bender. Conduct necessary training for operators, maintenance personnel, and programmers, covering technical operations, maintenance, and care.

Differences Between a Double Knife Bender and a CNC Panel Bender

Both the double knife bender and CNC panel bender offer high flexibility and are often referred to as "universal benders" in automated production. Prior to 2018, both were hydraulic-driven. After 2018, CNC panel benders began using servo drives, while the clamping system remained hydraulically driven. Key differences include:

Bending Speed

Under the same conditions, the CNC panel bender has a slightly faster bending speed. Bending a 90° workpiece typically takes 1.8 to 2 seconds, while a double knife bender requires 2 to 3 seconds (depending on the profile size).

Bending Gap

The blade shape of a double knife bender differs from that of a CNC panel bender. Under adjustable clamping conditions, the CNC panel bender has a smaller force area during bending, which may cause surface damage or scratches to the workpiece.

Bending Shape

Both the double knife bender and CNC panel bender can bend various shapes, but the specific bending capabilities may differ depending on the type of machine and configuration.
